Director of Environment at Loro Parque Fundación

Javier Almunia Holds a PhD in Marine Science from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and a master in Environmental Management from the Institute of Ecological Research. He is currentrly President Elect of the European Association for Aquatic Mammals and Vicepresident of the Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums. He has extensive experience in endangered wildlife conservation projects, and has carried out field research in the Atlantic, Indian, and Antarctic oceans. Since 2001 is Director of Environment at Loro Parque Fundación an NGO that funds and implements wildlife conservation projects in over 40 countries around the world. This conservation work, supported by a touristic activity has been the cornerstone of the sustainability standard Biosphere Parks Animal Embassy, developed by the Institute of Responsible Tourism in close cooperation with Loro Parque Fundación.
